Cake - Costa Coffee To Go!

It's not often I get to attend the celebration for where the cake I make is destined...  but this time I was on the invite list!  This cake was for my brother-in-law's surprise 40th birthday.  He and my sister spend many a morning in the local Costa Coffee after the school run, when he's working from home or has the day off...  so we thought this would be an ideal cake for him.

Bird Cage Cake

Birdcage Cake

This beautiful 3 tier birdcage cake was ordered by Nuala for her 40th birthday. However, as it would also make a stunning vintage-inspired wedding cake, I photographed it without the inscription as well as set up at the venue once complete.

40th Birthday Cake with Butterfly

40th Birthday Cake
But not just ANY 40th birthday cake... My 40th birthday cake!
Some of my friends asked me 'surely you're not making your own cake?' But yes! I love my job that much that I couldn't wait to do this. At first, I thought it might be a bit young for a 40th... but then I thought 'what the heck?' It's my birthday and I'll do what I like. And I do like this one... so pretty and girly. (many thanks to Lorraine McKay for allowing me to use her side-design on my cake)
