Red Velvet Cake

I've been asked for this so many times that I thought I ought to have a try. I'm not 100% convinced by this cake...  I suspect the pull is more to do with the appearance rather than the cake itself.  It's not a lovely chocolatey chocolate cake, neither is it a light and fragrant vanilla sponge.  And don't get me started with all that red food colouring!!!  

I'll try again with another recipe, but going on past experience, it's not the recipe (and it's certainly not the baker!!!) ...  it's just not a cake that I particularly enjoy eating.
